Water Security Plan in the EEC

Preparing for investment in the Eastern Economic Corridor or EEC, in addition to all aspects of infrastructure preparation, ensuring water security is equally important. 

The Eastern Economic Corridor Office of Thailand (EECO) together with representatives of the Royal Irrigation Department, with Surachat Malasri, Director of the Project Management Office and representatives of the Royal Irrigation Office no. 9, had a meeting to discuss and surveyed the area and water resources in the project area according to the resolution of the Cabinet (Cabinet) on December 20, 2022 to acknowledge and approve the draft action plan for the EEC business center project and a smart new city.

The latest project action plan assigned to the Royal Irrigation Department Responsible for implementing 3 main projects to create water security to support EEC business centers and smart new cities, namely

  1. Development project of retention and water storage in main and secondary rivers. Royal Irrigation Department accelerates exploration and design in 2023. 
  2. Survey, water supply design and the water network for the project. It is designed under the concept of environmental friendliness and in line with the landscape of the project area. The project focuses on relying mainly on water sources in their own areas and is a cost-effective use of resources
  3. Water storage development project within the project area

On the private sector, Eastern Water Resources Development and Management Public Company Limited or East Water by Cherdchai Pitiwatcharakul, President updated on the 2023 water security plan for the EEC area. 

In the year 2023, the company continues to operate the business to create stability in the management and development of water resources of the country in the eastern region and the EEC fully with smart technology, and be ready to move forward to increase the potential of the large water pipeline network or the most complete Water Grid to support the increasing water consumption of customers. 

As for the raw water source that is the initial water resource, East Water has continued to develop and cover 3 provinces in the eastern region, including Dok Krai Reservoir, Nong Pla Lai Reservoir, Khlong Yai Reservoir, Prasae Reservoir, Thap Ma Raw Reservoir in Rayong Province, Nong Kho Reservoir and Bang Phra Reservoir in Chonburi Province, and the Bangpakong River in Chachoengsao Province.

In this regard, East Water has a plan to develop and upgrade services that meet the needs of water users to suit the needs of each water user at all times. To provide integrated water business services including raw water, tap water, industrial water, wastewater treatment and water reuse is to meet all the needs of water users efficiently for various industrial estates, government and private sectors both inside and outside the eastern region.
